It has been years since I heard this tune and seen the old movie Easter
Parade staring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. So, I thought I would
add the lyrics to refresh the memory of those that have heard it, and
enlighten those that haven't.
"Easter Bonnet"
In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.
On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us,
And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,
And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter Parade.
Written by Irving Berlin
Easter is just around the corner, so it time to get all dolled up for the
Easter Parade, we offer a wide selection of sponsored ads for apparel and
gifts. Traditionally, new clothes were bought for Easter and worn to
church. After church services, everyone went for a walk around the town.
This led to the American custom of Easter parades all over the country.
Perhaps the most famous is along Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Egg Rolling
The Egg Roll itself is a race, where children run in parallel lanes, pushing
an egg through the grass with a long-handled spoon.
Egg Rolling History
In the United States in the early nineteenth century, Dolly Madison, the
wife of the fourth American President, organized an egg roll in
Washington, D.C. And it is still celebrated on the White House Lawn.
In England, Germany and some other countries, children rolled eggs down hills on Easter morning, a game which has been connected to the rolling away of the rock from Jesus Christ's tomb when he was resurrected. British settlers brought this custom to the New World.
